Please don’t think the following is a complaint, I really like Avast!
I’m a photographer processing hundreds of images at a time, and I don’t want Avast to check the programs I use (Photoshop, Lightroom, IMatch) or to process JPG & NEF file formats, or to check the backup Plextor DVD recorder that I use. The files are coming from my camera’s.
The Avast checking process causes my work flow to take huge amounts of time. I have been shutting Avast off recently so I can get my work done, and that’s not a good practice.
Can someone please give me a general idea on how to change Avast settings to facilitate this for me - Thanks, IM
Standard Shield, Customize, Advanced, Add and enter the path to the file of files you wish to exclude.
If your camera is always taking the same drive letter, you could exclude *.jpg and *.nef formats, e.g. F:**.jpg the * wildcards avoids having to put in the full path the *\ allows for any number of folders or sub folders before any named .jpg file. Repeat the process for .nef files.
I don’t know what files you don’t want avast to scan but it doesn’t have a function not to scan anything to an application. So you would have to add exclusions for any files that have high activity.
You need to exercise care when using wildcards as it could leave holes in your security, so naming a sub folder before excluding a file type would limit that exposure.
