How to stop avast to load new graphics drivers?

I just started using avast and I need to load a new graphics driver. The NVIDIA site suggests that all antivirus software be stopped so the drivers can configure themselves properly. How do I stop avast software?

Just ignore the suggestion - it doesn’t have any justification.

Almost every program I know of makes that same request. I've yet to come across a program that actually requires the stopping of your AV or any other program meant to keep your system safe. As igor said, ignore their suggestion and simply install the driver.

That is interesting.
I always stop my Avast AV, Spyware Terminator and Comodo, when I install new software. You mean this is never necessary? Why do they keep requiring it?

I don’t know. Maybe in the “old days” avs caused problems and vendors just haven’t updated their thinking. I can only think of one time when I had to stop my av, mcafee at the time, it was preventing ie from installing.

I would NEVER disable them to install ANY software. I will only uninstall them to install other similar software: another antivirus, another firewall…

It should not be necessary - and it certainly is dangerous (to stop the resident protection before installing some software). What if the installer actually puts some malicous files on the computer? Installation of some programs is exactly the moment when the antivirus should be active to protect your computer.
