Sorry if this is an old topic, I have just encountered it - I do not want any Searching in the address bar - but I do not see a way to stop it - If anyone knows how to stop it, please let me know. Thank You.
Do you mean the Search bar in the middle of the Secure Browser? See attached.
Hi, no, I was not referring to the Search bar in the middle of the browser - just the Address Bar at the top. I found that it is also happening in Chrome and Firefox - but Firefox has switched back & forth on its own - between āPaste & Go, & Paste & Searchā. This does not seem like a friendly thing - but virus & malware scans have not found anything harmful.
Best to attach a screenshot of exactly what you speak of.
See below: (Firefox address bar)
- I had put 2 screenshots, donāt know why only 1 shows. - The first showed what I have always seen, and what I would prefer to see when Right-Clicking in the Address bar - Paste, and āPaste & Goā. This one shows it only offering Paste, and āPaste & Searchā. Here it is only doing that for the word, not the Site name, but I have seen all browsers do it unpredictably on some Site names, but not others. I donāt know what makes the difference. I never Search in the Address bar, itās not a big deal, just a preference, I donāt like to clutter it. So when I type in a full Site name, I would like it to just go there. If I want to do a search on a full Site name for some reason, I do it in the Search bar, or at a Search Engine Site. Thanks.
What version of ASB are you running?
I have version 122.0.24198.94 latest version.
Attached below will show drop-down list from address bar is as you say it was on yours and is on my system.
What would likely make a difference for you is that Avast had to change their GUI interface. See this topic: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=326174.0
Suggest reading entire topic as it relates to graphic user interface changes avast had to make recently.
Could be a language translation error in the gui if not in English, but some other language?
Hi, I read through the link you shared, and I guess it may be, but I donāt have any way to know if this is directly related to a GUI-change ā¦
And, as I do rarely, but sometimes, when things seem unnecessarily problematic, I did an Uninstall-Reinstall. So I imagine that would provide the latest version - but it does not seem to have - it is a lower version than what you showed, I donāt know why, maybe because mine is the free version ā¦
& English is (at least should be), only language in any settings.
You can manually update Avast Secure Browser. See attached below:
- Click 3 dots upper right corner.
- A drop-down list will open.
- Go to bottom of list and click āHelp and About Avast Secure Browserā to see current browser build.
- Click āUpdateā if available.
- Restart
[Edit:] ASB is free version also.
I just checked there again, thereās no update available right now, and for whatever reason, as in the screenshot above, it shows I have a lower number version. Hopefully not a problem.
Check again.
Avast servers are all over the world, and deploying updates do take some time to complete.
