How to turn off advertising from Avast?

I just HATE the advertising from Avast wanting me to buy things I don’t want. If I can’t turn it off I think I’ll look for some other antivirus when the periode I paied for has run out.

Oh and BTW I bought Clean Up a while ago. I ran it and it completely messed up my PC. It removed shortcuts to a lot of my programs both on the desktop and in the start menu. It also changed my wallpater and a lot of other things. I had to have a friend come and reset my computer to an earlier setting.

Sadly at the time I was not feeling well (I have a cronic illness) so I never got around to asking for my money back. I can live with that but I’d advise everyone against buying that stupid thing. I’ll never run it again that’s for sure.

Promotional ads can be disabled in the settings if you have a paid version.

Follow: Avast > Settings > General > Popups e uncheck “Show popups…”.

This won’t work for ads, which is what the OP is complaining about. Not to mention that blog article is from 22 January 2015, over two years old.

You’re wrong. That works in paid versions for all offers and the user has a paid version.
And the article concepts are still valid.

Sorry, I thought the OP had said his paid version had run out, my error.

iN Avast settings I have no ‘General’ therefore cannot go to pop ups to uncheckl
NB I have paid option.
I also hate ads and am of the same frame of mind as the original post

Exactly what Avast Program and version number are you using ?

It has been in the Avast Free/Premium for Windows programs as long as I can recall.
Avast UI > Menu > Settings > General - See attached screenshot - click to expand.

Thank you for the post. I was totally fed-up with getting unwanted ads all the time, especially since I subscribed to Premium on a workstation just to get rid of those ads. Those notifications pop up at the most inconvenient time, just as you are in the middle of a task or a public presentation. Now to see if it works after I went to Settings to add Avast to the list of blocked apps for popups (under Menu - Settings - General - Blocked and Allowed Apps) as well as unchecking all boxes for offers and checking Limited elsewhere (under Menu - Settings - General - Notifications, the Offers and External Storage Notifications). I will definitely not renew the subscription, strongly advise anybody against purchasing an Avast subscription, and have already arranged with my IT department to install the same security software that I am using on my personal hardware.
