How to turn off DNS checks/changes in Avast One?

I am using Proton VPN and Avast One.

I am experiencing issues with Amazon Prime Video telling me I am using a VPN. Proton VPN has accepted and known servers for this, however, it would appear that my Avast One is interfering with that, while I have no DNS settings changed on system level.

How to deactivate DNS related features of Avast One? The UI leaves a lot to be desired in that case, as I am unable to even find those settings.

Hey! I had the same issue before. To disable DNS-related features in Avast One, you can try this:

  1. Open Avast One and go to the Settings.

  2. Head to the Protection tab.

  3. Look for DNS Protection (it might be listed under “Web Shield” or something similar).

  4. Turn off the feature or disable it temporarily.

You may also want to check under the Firewall settings to make sure Avast isn’t blocking Proton VPN’s connection.

Hope that helps! Let me know if it works!

Hey there Kevin,

thanks for your pointers.

That’s exactly what I meant though when I spoke of the UI being less than helpful.
The issue starts already at “Head to the Protection tab”. I have “Home”, “Explore”, “Messages” and “Account”. In “Explore” I can find a menu “Device Protection”, which may or may not be the one you’re referring to. In there there are like 20+ options. One of them is called Web Shield, the only one - from what I can see - containing any DNS related option at all to begin with.

This one says:

I turned it off. But judging by the description, this is just about a scan, not about actually replacing my DNS.
Will test if that solves the issue. However, Avast One could do a bit more to have an actually helpful UI. It’s certainly costly enough to enable them putting some more effort into that.
