How to uninstall completely without uninstaller

How can I uninstall Avast without the uninstaller?

I deleted Avast from my MacBook using App Cleaner but there must still be traces of Avast on my laptop as I get the message when I try to re-install that it is already installed. How to I completely uninstall it from my machine? Thanking you in anticipation.
