How to uninstall from the Internet Security version?

I had purchased the Internet Security version of Avast which has now expired. I am not finding any possible way to move back to the free version. When I try to uninstall it, I am told that I need admin rights. My user id does have admin rights, so not sure what to do other than rebuild the machine.

Are there any other options, other than rebuilding the machine? Have checked and double checked to find that my userid does have admin rights.

Windows7 machine x 64.

  1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
