My response center triggers a html-paypal-b-phish warning with avast free. The technicians say the problem is NOT in the system, but it is my computer. I had a technician go through my entire computer, all scans could not identify anything on my computer. Is this a false warning? I am hesitant to say it is okay if it is real malware…

I have the same problem:

Running latest Avast update. “HTML:Paypal-B [Phish]” is not in the list here: https://www.avast.com/virus-update-history
Can’t find a solution anywhere. No anti virus producer has posts up about this.
Called Paypal and ofcourse there’s nothing wrong with their website.
Avast comes with the error but can’t detect any virusses on my PC.
Nor can any malwhare scanner find anything.
Please help and sort this issue !

Hi,
Thank You for submitting! The problem You mentioned was caused by an incorrect detection. The detection was disabled, so the problem should be solved after next VPS update. We are sorry for any inconvenience You may have experienced.

I had exactly the same alert just now.
Ensure you have the latest virus definitions update.
I have JUST updated to the most recent version and I am now having this problem.
Try reboot … still problem?
This has NOT been resolved I just tested a logon to PayPal only for the alert to activate. This, considering it is PayPal, needs URGENT action to resolve this.
Hi DavidR,
At various places this avast FP is being discussed, for instance at StackOverflow’s.
Seems it is a misdetection of a “variable declared” inside the code causing this.
Should be tackled by avast team a.s.a.p. as the so-called genuine malware will arrive mail-included.

The problem is that ‘bauerj’ has already stated this has been fixed, when clearly it hasn’t and needs a resolution ASAP.
I am having the same exact issue. It seems like they have released four updates as of yesterday. The most recent one “-4” is where I started with the problem.
Avast, please advise. This is a serious issue for those of us who us Paypal
Hi guys, I forwarded it to threat lab on Slack. Lets see…
Info from Threat Lab: This detection was disabled, but since then we didn’t release new VPS version because of some issues, it will be fixed in next stream update.
Someone needs a kick in the backside to get this sorted ASAP.
VPS version still the same 181019-4, the stream update is 181019-4_stream and the last stream dtg 20/10/2018 09:03 (local), which was just a few minutes ago.
Yet here we are still getting this alert.
Well-informed circles say to wait for a next VPS update, that will certainly cure this.
Let’s wait and see,
polonus
When you are talking about an FP on PayPal (actually acknowledged by an avast team member), waiting isn’t something that is going to see Avast in a good light.
Hell I have seen faster responses to an FP report (in these forums) on a bog standard site resolved quicker.
Hello DavidR,
actually this was resolved in one of the streams really fast after problem appeared but because of some issues with internal release there was an issue with regular VPS update which caused this delay.

stream update with fix was released 19.10.2018 1:39PM
Thank you.
Manual update done and we are now able to login to paypal.
