New laptop. When I try to install Avast, I get error: HTMLayout.dll missing.
Searched forum, no fix found. (Some say solution is to find HTMLayout.dll on computer and move it but because this is new laptop with fresh Avast install, the file does not exist. No are there any Avast folders because installer has failed to run.)
Go to the windows update website. ( http://update.microsoft.com ) and install all updates available for your system.
You may have to visit that website/reboot multiple times before everything is installed.
Check device manager and make sure there are no errors there at all.
No red cross(es), no exclamation mark(s).
If any is there, solve that first by installing the latest correct drivers for the device.
Next:
First make sure there are no remnants of a previously install av other than avast. http://www.ache.nl > malware > remove (old) av
Be Sure Too Check Once Uninstall is Complete:Device Manager>View>Show Hidden Devices
If there is anything related to Avast with a yellow triangle then uninstall it (highlight, right click) and reboot.
Thanks Eddy. That’s a lot of info and I appreciate that you’ve taken the time to provide it all.
I think I’ll just move on. That’s more hassle than I’m interested in pursuing at this time. No offence to you.
I think I’ll just select another product. There are so many available out there I think it’s just easier to go elsewhere than to debug a finicky install. Too bad, we had a good run Avast.
Most important with any av is, to remove the previously installed one completely.
And no, control panel > software > application name > add/remove, doesn’t do that.
So you still may want to visit my website (ache) and/or use the uninstall tools as mentioned in 3. and 4.
You are the second person to report this specific issue recently. The OP in this thread never resolved his issue but he ignored many of the suggestions:
Looks like Eddy already gave you some good advice so the only thing I can add is to make sure that any “antivirus trialware” is completely uninstalled before you attempt the installation of another antivirus. Now, many of these AV providers offer a clean uninstaller (similar to aswclear offered by Avast) so make sure you take advantage of same just in case you run into some issues when installing your next antivirus solution. Good luck.
