hundreds of internal error (42003)

Hi,

I just downloaded a free trial version of Avast v 4.7.1043 (Home), and am running a scan after downloading the very latest virus definition file.

Avast did detect some virus/trojans, but I also get tons of internal erros from the program (error code: 42003), and my hard disk makes some weird noise every time the error is generated. I have searchd in the forum, and found plenty of discussions on the same issue, but none seems to give a solution. Some of them from 2004 seem to indicate this is a bug in the program.

Can someone confirm?

Note: this erros appear on different file types (dll, pdf, inf, exec, etc.). I’m using a labtop with Pentium III and 512MB of RAM, running Win XP SP2.

My guess would be that your harddisk is not functioning properly (contains bad sectors and the files cannot be read) :frowning:

If Igor is right, scandisk (chkdsk) your disk.
Right click its icon on Windows Explorer > Properties > Tools
