For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
This is certainly a corrupt installation for the add remove programs, change/remove not to work and the other missing file error. So it may require a clean reinstall in the last link Pondus gave.
Is this your first installation of avast ?
Or an update form 4.8 to 5.0 ?
Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
Corrupt installation?
How can this be possible?
I mean, I’ve downloaded the file from the avast site…
Yes, it is my first installation of avast.
I had installed the AVG 8.5 that I uninstalled first, in order to install Avast.
With this bad installation of Avast I got an alert of: Win32 Rootkit-gen [RTK], C://windows/system32/drivers/mmoda.sys that I can’t delete from my system.
I used SDFix and I get back 5GB of disk space, but the virus it seems still to be present in my system…
I don’t know if the problem with the uninstall process of Avast is associated with this virus.
I did it. I’ve uninstalled the Avast 5 totally.
I’ve installed the Avast5 again.
I got a successful message from the installed process, but inmediatly the program crashes…
I have tried to install Avast! 5 on my brand new dual core 64-bit Dell, with Windows 7 – and it won’t work. In fact, If I download from the link sent to me after I ordered (which downloads a file named “setup_ais_exe”), all I get is a blue screen that reboots and reboots, etc. So I checked one of the forums and it suggested disconnecting the behavior control feature, which I did, with the same bad result.
I also tried installing the Avast 5! free edition (“setup_av_free_eng.exe”) and then using my license to upgrade – but that only resulted in the program not permitting either the firewall or email scan to be turned on and kept it in network lock mode…not very useful. Clicking around inevitably leads to the (Windows) message that the program is incompatible… (By the way, I didn’t mention it, but Windows 7 wasn’t allowing me to uninstall Avast! 5, but I found your uninstall tool (“aswclear.exe”) and have done about 10 installs and uninstalls using the tool (about 50/50 using the aforementioned setup programs).
I am exasperated and about to stop payment on my credit card. I previously used and enjoyed version 4.8, but you don’t have that for download or improvement anymore. The old 4.8 program worked on my new 64-bit Dell (which I got about a month ago) just fine.
was your Dell delivered with McAfee installed or Norton ?
If so i guess you have uninstalled it, but did you run McAfee or norton uninstall tool afther?
If not you can fiend it here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/
I’ve cleaned my system en safe mode.
But when I try to start up the process is interrupt with a blue screen telling me the there are a problem and the memory is dumping to the physical media…
I guess because in the clean process in safe mode these file were deleted:
Well, I have uninstalled the Avast 5 in safe mode and the blue screen is not appearing in the start up process of Windows!!!
Sorry, but Avast 5.0 is very unstable and gave me more problems than a virus!
I think the 4.8 version is really better than 5.
My Dell did not come with Norton, McAfee, or any other anti-virus program – I bought it at a Best Buy. Please read my earlier post again. I need a practical solution or advice…
And I thought it was just me almost everything posted in this blog has happened to me I tried to install several times but no good had to go into safe mode to try and uninstalled, then the older version would not work so I was getting into a state so I have hopefully uninstalled everything but in the end I had to do a Image Restore to get back to where I was with avast 4.8 working ok again but I am not very happy I like avast but I have downloaded AVG and am thinking of changing as all this has really hacked me off !!!
I am not sure if Avast even bothers to read up this forum because there is a lot of people out there with the same problem but don’t seem to be any advice coming from them I know its free for us small guys but it is giving them a bad name for sure.
all these issues you describe I never had them, but OK, there seem to be some systems with issues, and bad issues I see it here again. The thing about the avast team: they certainly read the threads and are most likely busy “cooking” the next build. They’re not gonna leave it like that it’s not their style
