I can't stop texts after sim change

I’m on holiday in Thailand and ive switched sim to a local sim. Location texts are being sent daily from Thailand to my friends contact in UK, so its wasting my credit daily. I’ve tried to stop it by uninstalling on phone, unchecked enable on phone, change setting on account, change friend phone number and finally delete the phone from my account, but nothing stops the texts being sent.

It seems to me its a bug as I’ve switched off, disabled everything I can think of.

Any ideas?

Hello,

please open Anti-Theft once to mark the phone as “found”.

to do this, dial your avast! PIN like you would do with a phone number.

fyi:

  • you only uninstalled Mobile Security. Anti-Theft is still installed
  • the webinterface is just a way do display information from the app and send commands to the app. deleting the device on my.avast.com changes nothing.

've dialled the avast pin on my phone and the menu comes up, which option allows me to say “found”? I haven’t got premium

To add to the above post I’ve also tried sending a sms per the help I.e. 2222 FOUND
I used my actual pin rather than the above. It didn’t work as follows:
My S3 won’t let me send a SMS to 2222 FOUND, have I misunderstood what to do?
I then tried to text 2222 with 2222 FOUND in the body of the text and that didn’t work.

How can I make it work? Thanks

By the way this posting security for this thread is really painful, took me 5 attempts last time

Ok, I think I’ve fixed it…

I firstly set my number as a friends number just in case it would only accept the text from a friend. I then sent myself a text with 2222 FOUND in the body, avast then texted me saying the phone had been found.

Anything else I need to do? I guess the key thing is if you ever change sim, add to safe list, not sure how but I’ll check next time

Well, I thought id fixed it but no, it is still sending texts. Its wasting money daily. Its easier to kill a zombie.

The phone was set to FOUND per the above. I then uninstalled avast anti theft, per another thread. Would this cause the texts to be sent again?

Werner, how can I kill it to stop sending texts?

It seems text are being sent ever couple of days. You would have thought after being set to found and uninstalling anti-theft that would be it?

Hello,

I would un- and reinstall. I really can’t see why the device is still marked lost. except of course if you use a dual sim phone (we can’t support these).

Hello! with the latest update, we introduced many translations to different languages. I think yours aswell! Please update and give it a try!

I’ve prepared a how-to-uninstall available here: http://goo.gl/6b0fjB

Werner

Ok I’ve installed again. Just in case, I sent an sms for FOUND and LOCATE STOP, avast sent confirmatory sms in both cases. I then uninstalled. Fingers crossed my phone will finally stop sending sms. I’ll report back.

I’m 90% sure the SMS notifications have stopped but my balance is intentionally low so texts couldn’t be sent anyway.

I recommend not installing anti theft if you plan to change sim

I recommend not installing anti theft if you plan to change sim

the correct and easy way to change the SIM with Anti-Theft installed is:

  • open Anti-Theft and deactivate it
  • change sim
  • open Anti-Theft and activate it

when you open Anti-Theft after the SIM change the new SIM gets added to the list of trusted SIM cards.
by deactivating it before the change, you make sure that no SMS is beeing sent at all.
