I have just tryed to install norton onto my PC, in order to do this I have to delete ‘avast!’, I did this successfully but when I restarted my computer it crashed (every time), I ran the diagnostics and it said I needed to run system restore, I did and my PC started up but now ‘avast!’ won’t work and won’t delete.
Is there a way to delete this without using that special file?
That file http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html is safe to use. (Make sure Windows firewall (or another third party firewall if already installed) is turned on).
You should first download the uninstall utility, the installer file for Avast (or Norton, if that is your choice) (if you don’t have it already), and the Norton Removal tool. http://majorgeeks.com/Norton_Removal_Tool_SymNRT_d4749.html
Once all is downloaded, disconnect from the net.
If it is possible to remove either or both programs via the control panel, please do so. Quite likely you won’t be able to.
-Reboot into safe mode
-Run the Avast uninstall Utility.
-Run the Norton Removal tool
-Reboot into normal
-Install the Av of your choice
-Reconnect, get updates.
NO FLAMING ABOUT NORTON!
Sure thing. Why would anyone need to flame Norton, here? It's its' own best friend. ;D
