i cant update my definitions/program/turn avast! on

i did a system restore earlier this week ( because of a seperate issue ) but ever since then my avast! has been automatically turned off and i cant really… do anything with it. i cant even uninstall it, even with the uninstall tool.

my current version after the restore is 6.0.1367, before it was 7. something.

hopefully someone will have some sort of insight on what to do because i want to just get this fixed asap D:

did you run the uninstall tool in safe mode ? http://www.avast.com/en-eu/uninstall-utility

I am new here and dont understand where the answer is to this post.

I have the same problem, cant update definitions,etc.

Mel,

Try an Avast Repair first:

XP Users:

  • Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
  • Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
  • Reboot.

Vista & Win7 Users:

  • Control Panel
  • Programs & Features
  • Uninstall a Program > Select Avast Antivirus
  • Click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair
  • Click Next and follow.
  • Reboot.

If this does not fix the problem, then try a Manual Update.

Also see if your firewall is blocking anything pertaining to Avast.
