I click in start resident protetion but not work !!

I install - delete - reinstall - delete - reinstall but is aways off resident protection

Any one can help me ?

What Operating System are you using ?
Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

Win 98 SE

Only Avast is running - free edition
Not another program resident - only avast …

What about previously installed AVs, not just resident ?

Are you getting any errors displayed ?
Is there a Red circle over the avast icon (do you have an avast icon) ?

What version of avast are you using latest is 4.7.892 ?

I remove in control painel only 1 avast running
I have a Red circle over the avast icon and if I click in start resident prot… not work and the red circle continue… no mensage is display too

I´m using 4.7… - I download today in site avast.com (portuguese version)

what av or security suites have you previouslly used. i ask this because some take a little more effort than simply using add/remove programs in control panel.

But what AV was it, a number of them, NAV being one are notoriously difficult to remove all elements and cause issues even after an uninstall ?

Red Circle on avast icon, is most commonly caused by either another AV installed or not completely removed. This FAQ entry mentions another possibility, unfortunately that doesn’t relate to win98. http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-other-questions.html#idt_1539

Is your installation of avast in the default location (you didn’t change it) ?

Are you trying to install the last avast setup (4.7.892)?
Is there any other antivirus or security application installed but disabled in your computer?

And is directory your installation of avast include cirillistic or Unicode simbols?
