My PC seems more sluggish with the most recent avast version than it was before, even though I’ve disabled
HTTPS scanning and the HIPS in the File shield. Everything else is default. Not sure if there is anything else to try.
I’ve only the shields installed (file and web) - nothing else. I’m going to revert to 2218 for now, ran much smoother
on my box. I noticed how sluggish it became with more than 4 or 5 tabs open in Firefox. Don’t remember that before.
I see AvastSvc in Task Manager using between 15 - 30% of the CPU.
I suppose this latest version of avast could be doing more than before even with those options disabled.
Perhaps my marginal spec PC makes it obvious. Probably not even noticed on more recent machines.
EDIT I have reinstalled 2218 and opened Firefox as it was before (History/restore previous session).
I have the Task Manager open, and as I switch to the different tabs AvastSvc doesn’t exceed 3%.
That makes a big difference in terms of responsiveness to the system
How come it’s so much lighter than 2225? Was 2218 actually doing its job, or was the web shield a big no-op ?
I have had some system lock ups, whilst browsing and using MS excel, but I can’t really determine the cause as it is so locked up that I can’t get to the task manager to see what is using CPU, or access avast to run a support package or do a user initiated BSOD to gather data.
Outside of these instances generally it is running fine.
You have XP Pro in your signature, is that 64bit (SP2) or 32bit SP3) ?
It’s the much more common XP, 32-bit SP3. I have not generally experienced a lock up in mine,
just sluggish behavior. The only exception, a couple of times, it locked up during shutdown/restart
after avast was updated - when I had to use the power button.
