i found a virus in windows system32 and cant clean it

i just installed 4.7.1098 and did a boot scan.avast found panmap32.dll.in my system32 folder.out of the options.i first chose to clean but avast cant clean it. so i moved to chest.but when windows booted.a box poped up saying the dll cant be found.i have sins extracted it back to system32 folder.virus total only has three or four av’s that detect it.is there a way to eighther clean it or replace it. ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Not all infections can be cleaned, e.g. where the complete content of the file is malicious, like a trojan, only true virus infections can be cleaned and then only if the infected file is covered by the VRDB.

The fact that you get a pop-up saying the file can’t be found means that there is a registry entry trying to run it on boot and fails (great). Run HJT and you should see the entry for this, tick the Fix box to the left of it and click the Fix Selected button at the bottom of the HJT window.

thanks.alot.DavidR.highjackthis did exactly what you said it would.iam more impressed with avast than ever before.like i said avast is only one of three or four av’s that detects it.cheers. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Your welcome.

avast, especially the forums are more than just an AV, if you don’t have support you are very lonely with your AV of choice.

You could run HJT again and copy and paste the contents of the log file (you may need to use two or more posts if it is a large log) and we can take a look at it.

every thing seems to be ok for now.if i have eny more problems ill pots the hjt log.thanks again. ;D

Your welcome, though seeming fine and being fine could be two different things.
