I got Avast Pro on my computer. It has always worked perfect, but lately the program won’t update to the next version. I’ve never had these problems before, but now the program is stuck on the 5.0.677. I’ve tried to press ‘update’ hundreds of times the past month, but it’s stuck. and the security center on my computer gives me constant warnings that my antivirus program is outdated. What can I do to fix this???
Relax for a minute and take a deep breath. All is not lost. First download the latest version of Avast which is 6.0.1044. Then uninstall your version completely. You may need to use the Avast uninstaller. Then once you have rebooted install version 6.0.1044. Its that easy.
What do you mean by stuck, when you check for updates are you getting errors, are you being told it is up to date, etc. ?
Avast 5.0.677 is well out of date Version 5.0.677 released 2010-09-07;
Version 5.1.889 released 2011-01-13;
Version 5.1.864 released 2010-12-31;
The latest release Version 6.0.1000 released 2011-02-23.
The avast 6.0.1044 is a pre-release build and not a regular release (whilst quite stable), so if you aren’t comfortable with the you should stick with the regular releases, http://www.avast.com/en-gb/release-history.
I get constant error messages every time Avast tries to update automatically. So I’ve tried to press the ‘update button’ but it doesn’t work. The update process doesn’t continue, it just stands still.
I’ve also tried to uninstall it so I can download the newest version, but when I’m pressing ‘uninstall’ i get a error note that says: ‘A setiface error has occured: 2. Try to reinstall or contact support, please’.
Click on MBAM in my signature and download the free version.
Install the downloaded MBAM.
Start MBAM and do an update via it’s GUI.
Run a Quick Scan.
When Quick Scan is finished, a log shows up.
Post log here, please.
The setiface error is usually associated with corruption in the installation, so I would suggest the avast repair as mentioned by DavidCo. But my guess that might fail also.
However, I generally don’t recommend chasing down problems in out of date software unless there is a compelling reason to keep it. So I would suggest a clean install of the latest avast version 6.0.1000 or even the pre-release version now at build 6.0.1086. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=76349.0
Download the latest version of avast, 6.0.1000 http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download (or pre-release version mentioned above) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 5.x and 6.0.x).
Now uninstall avast! (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that, possible, start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 5.x if previously installed and then for 6.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.
