I keep getting alert for viruses via MS Edge

I keep getting alert "virus detected via MS Edge, run virus scan, boot scan full virus scan, Avast Premium says everything is fine.

Lacking in detail to get an idea of what it might be.
A screenshot of the Avast Alert window with the see Details option selected might help.

That said are you actually trying to connect to that site ?
If not start by clearing your browser cache and cookies, including 3rd party cookies and restart your browser.[br]If that resolves it you should be good to go.

  • If it doesn’t try running your browser with add-ons disabled. -
  • If that resolves it, have you added or updated any add-ons ? -
  • If so try disabling that add-on - and restart and try again.
  • If still not resolved and you are using Chrome based browser ‘Edge in your case is’
  • try this suggestion by Avast Team member ‘lukor’ - What about page notifications? Here: chrome://settings/content/notifications ? Do you have all cleared?

Sorry for the lack of detail. I’m not trying to connect to any site. These popups occur on the desktop with no browser open. Avast antivirus doesn’t detect any viruses. I get all sorts of popups ie, Norton antivirus subscription expired, then AVG detects 5 virus. Then Norton life lock credit card data may be at risk. At the bottom of these popup boxes there is a small note “via MS Edge”. I have no extensions or add on in Edge, or any other browser. This is a new refurbished computer I bought from Blair Technology Group about a month ago. There is not a lot on this machine. The other issue is when I try to access the browser setting, the popups that come up block the settings menu. Thanks for the help.

Are you running multiple Antivirus products ?
As this “AVG detects 5 virus” yes you are, whilst there are lots of underpinnings designed by Avast, AVG is also in Gendigital.

Whilst Avast, AVG and Norton are part of the Gendigital Group - Google Search

Some of these popups sound more like ads/notifications.

The only antivirus that I have is Avast. These popups happen so fast one right after the other.

As I said:

Have you tried any of the other suggestions I mentioned ?
Which weren’t browser related but Avast Settings.

If so was the outcome (as there really little else to work with) ?

I’m just wondering if there weren’t remnants of other AVs on this refurbished system.

Note - I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.

I was able to finally catch a break between popups and get into the settings and clear the cache and cookies, that seemed to do the trick. Thanks for your help.
