Several days ago I had to do a completely fresh install of Avast Free.
Now, since then every single day I have an alert telling me to “Claim a welcome gift”.
It doesn’t matter whether I dismiss it or go through all the screens to get rid of it, the next day the alert is back. Even after that it still shows the message in the main GUI.
How do I stop Avast from bombarding me with these unwanted alerts? I’ve clicked them. I’m not interested!
When I click on it. The option to dismiss was only there the first day, now I can’t get rid of the alert without going through the whole promotion spiel:
I would have thought by now you would be able to find your way round the settings.
Though the screenshot 1st screenshot will happen on a clean reinstall, they aren’t to know. Saving your settings before a reinstall would allow for a reinstall of your previous settings.
It is a notification that indicates there is an issue that needs attention. It is supposed to be an actual alert, not an ad. And it certainly shouldn’t repeat itself over and over.
I am in limited mode. Limited mode reduces popups, not regular notifications. Something you should know by now.
I have backed up and restored settings. I am in limited mode. Everything is off under privacy. Settings are correct.
I still get this notification every single day, even after having dismissed it several times already.
Edit: The notification is back again. That’s twice in one day. This is either a bug, or deliberate aggravation.
Edit 2: And again it is back. 10 minutes after dismissing it. It won’t stop. On a totally fresh install of the very latest version of Avast.
I did a clean install and then Limited Mode got set by importing settings. I think that doing that doesn’t actually set it. I have since switched to another mode and back, and so far no more alerts. I’ll probably know tomorrow.
If this is truly the case than this is a actual bug, because Limited Mode is indicated by the radio button, but it not in fact set.
As rocksteady said, its a misleading add to entice you to sign up for a trial and hope you forget to cancel and then automatically charged for a year premium.
i already have premium 10 licence and i get the same but mine is not asking me to trial premium but to trial cleanup, vpn etc.
Brand new win 11 pc (spec in sig below). only thing loaded was avast, nord vpn, wisecare 365 cleanup and when i run a smart scan i get 16 performance issues found. 21.1gb junk, 1 pc health problem, 78 broken registry items and 13 programs slowing down my pc. top 3 slow downs are
microsoft 365 ( which was deleted and removed on day 1)
nord vpn
microsoft one drive (which is turned off)
if i click resolve issues its asking me to pay for cleanup premium which i dont need as i use wisecare 365 pro. if i close the page i get the same as your picture, undecided you have time to resolve 92 performance issues with a 60 day trial.
re run 365 cleanup and then smart scan again and exactly the same issues show up with 92 issues.
PS im already set to limited mode in popup settings.
I know what it is. It is misuse of the notification system, and it seems bugged because it keeps repeating instead of going away after dismissal / viewing.
Updated from 24.12 to 25.1 and it still does this!
It only goes away for (half a) day if I manually re-select Limited Mode. Which is already indicated as being set, but DOES NOT WORK until I for instance choose Silent Mode and back to Limited.
hi, as you i am also getting frustrated with the so called free avast.
in the past i kept receiving unrequested blogs, which took me days to get out of.
avast is NOT consumer friendly and i shall NOT renew my subscriptions.
i do hope they learn from our response regards chris
