I must say I am impressed with Antivir!

I sent Antivir, about 20-25 samples from Rague Spyware list (list below)

Although these samples contain mainly adware etc.

Antivir said they will add them to their signatures in the next update:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for your recent inquiry.

We found a new spy-/adware in the attachment you have sent us:

ADSPY.SpyTrooper.a
ADSPY.AdPatrol.a
ADSPY.SpyFalcon.a
ADSPY.Spyzard.a
ADSPY.Qworke.a
ADSPY.SpyGuard.a
ADSPY.Begone.a
ADSPY.Sheriff.a
ADSPY.Punisher.a

The signatures will be integrated in one of our next updates.

I appreciate that their are programmes available to detect spyware/adware. But i am impressed to see a anti virus programme adding adware to their signatures!

Please avast, do the same!

avast has in the past added spyware to its detections when submitted as samples, they just don’t specialise in spyware.

If you do a virus database search for spy it returns 3466 entries, obviously all these aren’t spyware as it returns some with spy in the virus name and that may not necessarily be spyware.

Some of the variants of spyfalcon are also picked up as Trojan-xx virus names.

I assume that you also sent them to avast.

just submit them to Alwil and don’t forget to add copy of that AV email

Just a reminder: AntiVir detects spyware/adware only on it’s Premium edition, for which they charge money :stuck_out_tongue: Avast detects it even in the freeware version
