Ok I have a virus that doing a complete system restore back to factory settings did not fix and my Mcafee didnt getin the first place either.First I kept getting kicked off my wireless connection.I have a WPA security setting on it. Then web pages would not resond,go to the next page, close or open. I sutrned my laptop on upstairs shut it to go downstairs, maybe two minutes past and when I opened all my desk top icons moved up to the upper left hand corner. SO I do the the system restore because I initially called geeksquad and they said for $4oo they could remove it and if they couldn’t remove it they would then do a complete system restore back to factory settings and that should take of it.Well since I have done it before I said 86 the $400 hundred and did it myself. So I am setting all the settings up like you have to do when you first take it out of the box about to redo an essay that the virus screwed and somehow the virus turned my McAfee off completely and it wont let me turn it back on.So I call geeksquad back and they tell me that the virus is basically pretty serious and it got into my restore file and I have to completely wipe my hard-drive and re-install everything with a disk! What the hell? Ok I dont care if I have to do that but how the hell do I do it? PLease someone help me and dont screw me on this again unless your gonna by me dinner first, lol.Seriously please help.I have finals,an essay that has to be done by Monday and I am taking an online class next quarter and I simply dont have the money for a new comp and if I dont reach a certaint amount of credit hours next quarter I loose mu finacial aid and that online class is putting exactly where I need to be.Im not trying to give a sob story I just am hoping someone will feel where Im coming from and help me out.So if you can please help me and I hope karma comes back to you.Hey if you help me buy a lottery ticket, for real a dollar might get another free ticket, lol
You need to uninstall McAfee and install avast!
Please download HiJackThis and post a log here.
and do not think about wiping your hard drive
The only people that do that are hard core gamers with no real work or people with a mirror they can revert to
Now sometime it has to be done but very rarely
what it does take is some work
get that HJT posted first if you can
if Mcafee hopelessly corrupted
? are you running their suite?
? did it come pre-installed on your machine? any other AV’s ever installed?
remove AVAST
go here
http://www.pchell.com/virus/uninstallmcafee.shtml
be sure to run the additional uninstaller
then go here:
What if Windows Security Center Shows AntiVir or other muliple Antivirus products installed
One quirk with causes AVs to still show up in the Windows Security Center even when its been uninstalled properly. If this is the case, please refer to this article to resolve it.
http://www.pchell.com/support/multiple_antivirus_in_security_center.shtml
THEN do this - works with any hard to uninstall AV
Using the AntiVir Registry Cleaner
If for some reason the normal uninstall does not work, you may have to download AntiVir’s registry cleaner utility to remove all traces of it from the registry and allow you to reinstall it.
- Click on the following link and download the AntiVir Registry Cleaner to your desktop
http://dl.antivir.de/down/windows/registrycleaner.zip
-
Create a folder on your desktop called Antivir and Unzip the file to your desktop
-
Double-click on the file called RegCleaner.exe to run it
-
Since the program is German, you’ll have to click on the button called “keys asulesen” to search the registry for any issues. Then place checkmarks next to the registry entries you wish to delete.
-
Finally, click on the button called “loschen” to delete the keys
-
Restart your computer and try to reinstall your antivirus
