I think I need help

I have read here that it is ok to ignore decomression bombs, I wanted to know if someone would tell me where they come from? As in how did I end up with 7. The computer seems to be acting very sluggish, very slow and erratic though. Does this have anything to do with the bombs? Thank you very much for anyone that has advice.

A decompresion bomb is a file folder that is compressed so much that it shows up as a fraction of it’s size. When opened it will take up a lot of space. Not as big of a problem as back when hard drives where small, 50mb-100mb. What seemed like a small file could fill the hard drive.

They are usually made up of compressed files within a compressed folder etc. how you ended with 7 is anyones guess. You could have made them accidently or avast sees them as such.

As for your system running slow, maybe if you where accessing them. Uncompressing and compressing them would take time. But normally files you need to run your computer shouldn’t be in that form. So, I don’t think so. When’s the last time you did some basic disk maintanence? like defrg?

Thank you for responding, seeing decompression bombs threw me!!! I had never heard of anything like this, then to have 7 and not knowing what to do with them did pretty much keep me focused on researching this. I was fearful this was my problem, I guess a tunnel vision kind of thing. Thank you for offerring defrag suggestion, I was wondering that, but as I said apprehensive. I will try that because I do believe it has been awhile. Thank you again.
PS I love the pix you have, exactly how I feel about the computer right now, lol when I saw that. forreste
