I went Pro and now my system is CRAWLING!

Yesterday I bought a Toshiba Netbook and I purchased the Pro Version Of Avast. There are no other AV programs on here. I even uninstalled the Norton that install that they want you to try. This is a brand new computer with NOTHING installed on it other than FF. After I installed Avast 5.0 my computer is crawling. Its even making the letters I type in this message show up 10 seconds after I type them.

Is there a way to fix this? Thanks in advance. :slight_smile:

When you uninstalled Norton did you also use their Removal Tool? If not, Google “Norton Removal Tool” and there will be a link to Symantec for a download. This removes things a normal uninstall fails to remove and is known to cause problems. Worth the try!

TwoShoes is fully right.
The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2003-2010 products from your computer.

  1. (If possible) Remove Symantec products through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
  2. Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me. Boot.
  3. Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). Boot.
