Off and on since yesterday, the little blue icon ball continuously rotates. It has been going around for 45 minutes now.
Please help!! ???
What where you doing when it is rotating (please don’t say watching it, sorry couldn’t help myself), browsing, p2p or file download in the background, etc.
The avast icon only rotates when it is scanning content ?
You could enable the ‘Show detailed info on performed actions’ in the various shields Standard, Web and Internet Mail, this will show actually what is being scanned. I suggest that you only do this one provider at a time otherwise you will be snowed under and unable to find which provider is active. The image is for Standard Shield.

Hi David,
I believe the problem is fixed. I had downloaded the Spyware Doctor.
I did as you said and found that it was the spyware program, so I uninstalled it.
Thank you so much for your help.
No problem, glad I could help, welcome to the forums.
You have to exercise care with other resident security based programs as when they are scanning, they access files and before this happens avast will scan the file, doubling the access and scan duration.
When I’m going to run an on-demand scan with another security based program I pause the Standard Shield to avoid possible conflict and duplicate scanning not to mention reducing the overall duration of the scan.
I believe you still need an anti-spyware tool, you just need to control when it scans, e.g. not when you are busy.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it. These first two options are on-demand scanners so you say when they scan and the third is a passive blocker so it should have no overhead other than when you check for updates.
- Ad-Aware
- Spybot Search and Destroy
- Spywareblaster Don’t install this until you are clean.
