I noticed the icon dissapeared from my task bar, so I wonder if I am protected, apparently yes because it appears in “running programs”, but then I cannot get to the options program that usually are accesible from the icon, also I cannot know for sure if all features are running… I already “repair” it from the control panel and it says it has been updated, but the icon is not showing. I re-boot but didn’t show the icon. I much appreciate any help
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual VPS version.
avast! icon missing - As a temporary measure until this is resolved you can create a desktop shortcut for this file C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashDisp.exe (the avast icon and interface to the providers). Right click on the file and select Send To, Desktop (create shortcut). You will need to run this after each boot until the problem is resolved.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard or OnGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc. ?
Check the option in the Appearance tab of avast! Program Settings.
E:\Images\CapturedScreenPrint\avast!\ashresources.gif - What avast processes are running in Task Manager, they begin with ash or asw, see image ?
