IE freezes with Avast...

Every time Avast automatically updates itself, it locks up my browser (IE) for about 3 - 5 minutes. Please help.

What exact version of avast ?
What exact version of IE ?
What other security (related) software is (or was) installed ?

Your installed Avast version?
What Windows Operating System/SP(Service Pack) version?
What is your previous antivirus? Did you use it’s own removal tool after uninstallation via add/remove?
IE version?
Are you using Windows Firewall/another firewall program?

Windows 7 Home Premium
Avast 4.7 Home Edition
Internet Explorer 11
No other security in use but the default MS product is installed but disabled

Start with installing the latest version and update your OS with at least all security update/patches.
