a message came up warning me there was a file in my computer that was a potential virus, and avast advised me to ignore the file. i ticked the don’t tell me about this again box, but i now have a virus which i believe to be related to the warning. how do i get avast to deal with the file?
I dnt know about the avast! case…(wait for evangelists)^^
And about the virus, I recommend u to download and install(update aslo) Malwarebytes anti-malware^^(www.malwarebytes.org)

-= You may check Avast! Logs to check the location of infection… Also, check if Silent mode is enabled…
What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Without information we are limited to the advice which we can give.
The alert is from the avast anti-rootkit scan, so effectively it is a suspect hidden file which could be a rootkit, because you ticked the don’t tell me again you may not remember the file name and location, so allowing avast to alert again on boot allows you to gather information (whilst allowing it to be sent {again} to avast), but continue with the advice to Ignore.
I’m afraid ticking that box was an error as I have no idea how that decision can be reversed and you would have been best to have asked first before action.
You could try running an on-demand scan with Standard Sensitivity as that also runs the anti-rootkit scan as a part of it the scan and hopefully that would not just ‘not tell you as you had selected earlier,’ but I don’t know if that decision you made would be carried over.
