I can’t get Avast (Home Edition) to ignore emails sent to a specific address.
I use a webcam application to monitor a remote building, which sends an email if motion is detected.
I also use Avast on this remote machine and it is set to send me an email to my own email address if a virus is discovered on the remote machine.
Avast stops these messages after a couple of messages are sent with an alert window showing on the remote machine. But i am not at the remote machine so i don’t get all the messages.
I’ve put the URL in the exceptions box as *.hostname.com (where ‘hostname’ is my emailprovider).
I also looked at similar topics, but none solved my problem.
The Internet Mail provider can’t ignore specific email addresses and the purpose of the Permitted URLs in the Heuristics is for destination of the remote iFrame and that may not be the same as the domain of the email provider (see image).
Does the email contain an iFrame, if so where does the data that populates it come from (remote location) ?
What is the exact message if avast stops these messages, it should only be because of virus/suspect email alerts ?
Checking the alert message can give a clue what customization to make so it doesn’t alert.
On both my computer at home and the remote location Avast Home Edition is used.
The ‘remote’ location is my late fathers house. It will be empty soon, but for the time being i want to keep an eye on people with ‘bad thoughts’.
The webcam application (remote computer) sends an email alert when motion is detected.
Unfortunately Avast stops them after two or three messages because “too many messages sent” thinking it might be malicious software sending these mails.
In my case sending these mails is the purpose of the program.
If i can’t set Avast to ignore the destination address (my own), maybe it’s possible to tell Avast to ignore the webcam program? ???
Maybe…
Just use the IgnoreProcess= option in the [MailScanner] section of avast4.ini file.
Click settings in my signature and browse a little… you’ll find more info.
Just a thought. How about turning off mailscan out bound scanning on the remote? After all, emails sent to you will be scanned at your end. If you decide to use the remote to send emails when you are there, you can always turn it back on.
