I'm in all sorts of trouble!!!!

Hi everyone, I really hope someone can help me out. I recently downloaded a piece of software and after running it, I got a 60 seconds til shut down warning and the PC turned off. This loop started whenever I tried to perform a virus scan using Avast. So I tried in safe mode to run a scan and I still got the 60 second shut down. I tried a few things like trying to switch of the auto shutdown, booting up in last good configuration but nothing stopped the shutdown, would let me do a system restore either…therefore (and I may regret this!!!) I used my windows disk to “repair”. (but I now still need to download SP2 & SP3 (not done yet) This resulted in no longer getting the shutdown message, and Avast found a win 32 trojan-gen other virus which I moved to the chest and decided to do a thorough scan…this took forever (24 hours) and then hung, I then tried a normal scan where the vrus was found in a few places. moved to chest and I thought everything would be fine, but every time I start windows I get a message saying avast has found this virus again…decided to try a thorough scan again and after running for 48 hours this time, and find 4 viruses it stopped again. I decided to try a online virus checker and the time estimated was 49 hours…I don’t have a huge hard drive (400GB) and have only half filled it. Currently running another online checker, and trying to read some of these board…which seem confusing to me. If anyone can help it really really would be appreciated, because I’m loosing my mind with this. I’ve started reading about false positives and I kinda understand that…but if anyone could spare the time to help I would be greatful

 Hi :

I hope you have more than Avast as a security program !? We usually
recommend using the FREE Version of Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware, available
from www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php AND/OR the FREE Version of
“SUPERAntiSpyware” from www.superantispyware.com . These 2 would be a
Good Starting “Point” .

I’d suggest you try one of these rescue CD’s. Download and burn the disk image on an uninfected computer. Boot the infected computer from the disk and run a virus scan (after updating virus definitions if this option is present).

Kaspersky Rescue Disk
AntiVir Rescue CD
Bitdefender Rescue CD
F-Secure Rescue CD

thanks for this folks.

I also use search and destroy and adaware…I will try and let you know
