In-Product Updater does not start by itself - even if set to automatic!

Is program revision 8.0.1497 not yet given free for automatic in-product update - or why does it not start by itself?

Have here an installation that is on rev. 8.0.1489 with settings in the way that program update should start automatically by itself. But if the setting is in that way (self automatic program update), the program should have been updated to 8.0.1497 quite a while ago … >:(

Having the Program Update set to Auto isn’t advised (Setting is Ask/Notify when an update is present), since it is likely to take longer than a standard virus definitions update, as it could occur at a time when you are busy.

It checks for updates in the background when you first boot and only if there is an update would it be installed. That said, Program updates because of their nature (large data bandwidth and in excess of 180million users) they are on an update cycle spread over a few weeks to avoid high server loads.

So that may be the case here, nothing stopping you do a manual program update if you don’t want to wait in the cycle and you know there is a program update.

The problem is that those users are “computer dummies” – you cannot know what they click if they see a program-update dialogue (they thing: “wah, a warning with someting of virus mentioned – let’s close that immediately” … … and then they click on the closing-x or press excape or anything else you cannot predict …). So to be on the safe side, for that kind of users I set program-update to automatic; otherwise I have to pass there to check if it’s correctly done.

And that’s exactly the problem I encountered: the program was not (yet?) updated even if set to automatic. I then did a manual update, but anyway hat some strange feelings why it was not done by itself.

If it’s only taking a while until it is done and I was too early, then it might be OK – but …
