Incompatible AV Software Running

Hello, I come to you after a long battle during which I deleted Kaspersky Anit-Virus in a brute force manner rather than un-installing it. I have now succesfully installed avast! but when my system starts up I get the message “avast! detected that the following program is running: Kaspersky Anti-Virus The on-access scanner module… CANNOT be active at the same time”.

I assume there is something left in my registry that I need to delete but I don’t know what it is. Can anyone tell me what is causing avast to see Kaspersky as still running so that I can end this nightmare?
Thanks!
…Sue

I see that this has already been discussed on this forum. Don’t know why I missed it the first time. Please ignore my post. thanks!

I spoke too soon… after reviewing all of the relavent material in the forum I still have the problem. Can anyone tell me what I need to delete? I guess it was pretty stupid to delete the program the way I did… I did it at the height of frustration!

How about this:

  1. Reinstall Kaspersky
  2. Uninstall using either their uninstall programme if they have one, or windows add/remove function
  3. Run a registry cleaner
  4. Reinstall Avast…

Lets know how you get on

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I only had a trial version and so when I try to reinstall Kaspersky it complains that I can’t use the trial key he’s given me since I’ve already had a trial and so the install just stops.

 I use a 3-step “process” to “remove” a program from my
computer : 1) “Uninstall” from "Add/Remove Programs
2) Use my computer’s “Search” feature to find all associated
“All files and folders” and delete, if possible, everything it
finds; 3) Use the “evaluation copy” of “Registry first Aid”
from www.rosecitysoftware.com to remove all “SAFE” items
it finds . Have you used a similar “procedure” ?

Is there an uninstall utility on their web site. Hang on I’ll go look

Unfortunately their website is worse than useless this page shows the only help available
