Independent tests.

Does anyone know if independent testing of AVG 2011 free has taken place?
I ask because I made the mistake of trying AVG 2011 free and it sucked. I am just wondering how much better avast 5.0 free is compared to AVG in a blind test. And, no, I am “not” giving up my avast free protection…ever. I already have “avast 5.0 free.”

Hi Para-Noid
Whenever I am looking for info or software reviews/comparisons I simply Google somthing like;;“Best Free Firewall Comparison” OR Avast Free AV Compared to AVG Free AV…or whatever. Just keep in my most all review/comparisons have a hidden agenda…support a certain piece of software…SO…read more then one article…usually about 6 or so and then take note of similar features. Remember To Test is the Best!..it can take a bit of time

I would recommend you Avast5; it’s better and lighter. You can use one of them as on-demand scanner which means that only one has realtime protection on.

I used AVG 8.5 and I hated it very much. I had lots of problems with it.
But AVG 10 is far better than AVG 8.5. Now, the free version also has Identity Protection; Anti-Rootkit and other features that previous versions didn’t have.
So I don’t know which is better, AVG 10 or avast! 5.
But I know that some people, who switched to AVG from avast! said that AVG found malwares and the PC, and of course, the Internet is faster now.

Hey

of what i seen both AVG and Avast rely alot on their signatures. so it won’t make any difference but Avast, of what I know, works better than AVG(I don’t know how AVG 2011) is).

At this point, I strongly urge that AVG 11 should NOT be considered by anyone: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/virus-spyware/f/3522/t/19354908.aspx

I myself am a happy user of Avast5 (as indicated in my signature). But in fairness to others whom I respect, I do believe that avira’s antivir or Microsoft Security Essentials are competant/viable free alternatives. Users of each product will swear by theirs… so each person must really decide for him/herself.

I have never liked AVG. Personally I would use CIS with Avast (only one Av must have realtime protection).

In case you want additional protection layer then Immunet is the right option.

Your pushing the boundry’s by having cis and avast on your system at the same time even if you only have the realtime on one, not advised, comodo’s firewall is fine with avast dont install the comodo av componant as even not running on realtime there are still low level driver’s that will conflict.

That I didn’t know of. Good to know:)

Thanks
