Information on a virus

Hi,

I have a file that when scanned with Avast give me a warning about a Trj named: Win32:Small-HRB
Where can I get info about what, exactly that mean.
I can see that there are a lot of the Win32:Small Trojan with different letters after, but no info about them.

Regards
Nobel

Trying to find information (google) using just the malware name is often difficult as there is no standard or convention in naming viruses, etc. So it way be different from on AV to another, it is probably better to search for the infected file name as that is likely to return hits for trojan small and other aliases.

What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.

Personally I feel this is not time well spent (life is to short), suffice to say I just confirm the detection is good using a multi AV engine scanner like, VirusTotal - Multi engine on-line virus scanner I feel virustotal is the better option as it uses the windows version of avast (more packers supported) and there are currently over 30 different scanners.
Or Jotti - Multi engine on-line virus scanner if any other scanners here detect them it is less likely to be a false positive. Whichever scanner you use, you can’t do this with the file in the chest, you will need to move it out.

Hi

Tanks for you ansvar ;o)

Now on Avast Forum, I can maybe get information of what Avast says, about the Win32:Small-HRB, and the other virus in the same category (Win32:Small-xxx). What are the characteristics about just that grope of viruses?

You can Google…
A very brief info, you can get by starting avast antivirus and choose Virus Information.
They’re EXE infectors.
