Initial Standard Shield Scan

Hello! I have searched high and low for answer in vain and I hope the question is not unbelievably stupid:

Just installed Avast 4.7 Home and everything looks nice except the standard shield scan takes ages, days, probably, is that normal?

I have my PC on no more than 11 hours a day and at the speed it scans now it will never actually finish within that timespan, had to give up after 60000+ scanned items yesterday (11 hours) and that is probably halfway there.

Tried disabling indexing of my drives but that did little to speed things up.

Surely it is not meant to take that long?

If you’re scanning archive files and you have many of these files… it could take hours for sure. Can you let it working overnight?
I know… on-demand scanning speed is not the best feature of avast…

I think perhaps the regular scan is not necessary, for as long as the relevant protection measures, everything can become easier.

What did you have an av before? and how was it removed?

I had AVG, uninstalled and followed by a registry clean to sweep up lingering files

Hope I don’t sound like a moaning ingrate, it’s a great piece of software, just wondered if my setup slowed down the scanning or it was normal!
