Install or registration problem

After installing I click on Avast icon and registration window opens. I insert the registration number and get the following error.
“Deleted stale lock file ‘/home/joelw/.avast/lockfile-joelw’.” How do I get this to run, please keep in mind I am new to Ubuntu. Thanks.

P.S. UPDATE: I deleted the .avast folder, then ran and inserted the registration and ran the program. As soon as I click update database it downloads then quits. I then try to get back into the program and I get the original error.

Well, that is a temporary file that was not deleted correctly. This happens when avast application is not correctly closed (but crashed).
I use Kubuntu, but I’m not an expert on avast for Linux and Linux itself. I did not make any manual changes to my avast installation on Linux. I don’t know the consequences of deleting that folder. But, if I were you, I’ll install avast again.

Installed twice already and it crashes everytime I download the latest updates. Just reinstalled again the clicked on update and it finished updating then closed by itself. I tried to run it and nothing happened. I then removed .avast file hidden in home folder and started again. There has got to be a way to fix this.

Try uninstalling, booting, installing again…

How do I uninstall?

Use Synaptic (or the Add/Remove program that Ubuntu uses).

It is not listed in either?

Does searching for avast (into Synaptics) return nothing? ???

Not a thing, I ended up removing by searching and using terminal with the command gksudo nautilus the ctrl-H to view hidden files and deleating one at a time.

How did you install the file and what installation file did you use?

Like this?

http://www.debianadmin.com/avast-antivirus-for-ubuntu-desktop.html

I installed the avast4workstation. 1.0.6-2 i386.deb

avast4workstation_1.3.0-2_i386.deb is the latest version.

Thanks, I will try that.

Better, try this: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=45237.0
It’s the latest build.
