Installation takes forever

Hello,

I reinstalled windows 10 home and I wanted to reinstall avast again. But it takes forever, up to a good 40 minutes and then it’s not even finished.

This happens with all the windows updates and even without it. And nothing else is installed on the pc that could hinder the installation.

Don’t know if there are server problems on avast’s end or if it’s something else. I have done a reinstall of windows 3 times already to see if it was any different. But on every single one of them they take forever. After 40 min I cancelled them because… well it’s not normal.

Also should mention that I disabled the firewalls, the windows defender etc, in an attempt to fix it.

I’m out of ideas

  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

-Free version
-Latest version because it’s the online installer
-windows 10 home 64
-no other security software installed. A fresh windows 10 install.
-I always used Avast in the past.

As mentioned in the previous post, I already tried disabling the firewalls, disabling the windows defender and updated to the latest windows version.

I never had this problem in this past. So I’m not exactly sure what is causing this

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Thank you, but that doesn’t really explain why it is happening. Like is there some conflict with the server of avast or is is it something else?

There is also no previously installed avast… because well I couldn’t install it.

I noticed a couple of threads of people having the same problem but they didn’t get an answer or fix

OK, skip step #2 then.

The offline installer works, I have Avast installed now. But now it’s updating as slow as it was installing the online installer of avast.

It seems that it’s because of the updates on avast, either from the the installer or when you have avast installed.

Don’t know why it’s being that slow, might be the servers?

Though I did a format again to see if that did fix anything, but still the same.

Like I said, I never had problems with avast before.

I’ve had such problem. What router and firmware for it are you using if custom?

Tp-link c5400, nothing custom. And latest firmware

Also reset the router to factory settings to see if it changed anything, it didn’t.
