How do I stop the installed programme update notifications on the PC. I am thinking about upgrading to paid version so I want to stop this. I have tried various solutions on the web but nothing has worked. Find it annoying
There’s a workaround to disable the ads (shown for the VPS updates) until it’s fixed…
You need to uncheck the Show notification box after automatic update (avast UI > Settings > Update - scroll down to details).
Some of the PCs which had the issue are getting resolved so fast enough the issue should be resolved.
If you want to disable all pop-ups… you need to enable silent/gaming mode BUT this will stop all notifications including malware alerts etc.
Thanks you for you reply. However does your instructions relate to the update on the Avast programme itself or where avast gives you notifications or updates available for such as Adobe and the like? If the latter then I will certainly give your solution a try. Just thought I would check first with you
Thanks you for taking the time to reply.
The ads you are getting are actually VPS updates from avast!..
However there is a bug of where it displays the ads INSTEAD of the VPS notification.
Gradually it is getting fixed.
If you use the notification solution… it will stop the ads which you are currently seeing and when the ads bug is fixed you can re-enable to the see the VPS ads.
If you want to disable software updater notifications (things such as adobe) you can do that through avast UI > Settings > Tools > Software Updater > Customize > (customize to your needs)… you can deselect the notifications or even disable it from there.
Thanks again. Under the tools section there is nothing shown in the box at all to enable me to do this. Is this only available in the paid versions?
No… it’s there in the free version…
avast UI > Settings > Tools > Software Updater > Customize > [uncheck] "Notification (popups) enabled…
That will stop you from getting notifications from Software updater about out of date programs.
Well I open the box where is has the tool, basket, settings cog down the left hand side. I click on the settings cog. It opens a new box beginning general at the top left hand side . There is tolls juust a over the trouble shooting section. I click on tools and there is nothing shown in the box to the right at all to. The software updated facility has been disabled in the programme settings via the control panel (change programme) but I still get them
Re-enable it… change the setting mentioned above and then disable it again.
Thanks again. I enabled it under control panel then it showed up under tools. All boxes unchecked
Still showing update notifications. Thought it had cleared
To completely get rid of the Software Updater…
Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click “avast”>click “change”>untick what you don’t want (in your case the software updater)>reboot
edit: Doing this will disable the module.
Thanks you for your reply. I did that before which didn’t work. I have tried it again as I had to reenable it to carry out previous suggestions. So will see what happens . Thanks again.
Thanks for your help guys with this. Still getting notifications, certainly for a programme adobe air what ever that does. Thanks again will have to live with it.
Adobe AIR used to be part of the installation for BBC iPlayer. BBC are now using a different system, and you can uninstall Adobe AIR now. (I used to find that nearly every time I used BBC iPlayer it required an update for Adobe Air, which required shutting down BBC iPlayer. Glad to see BBC have now dumped it.)
Thanks Navvy I will get rid and see how thing go
