Installed Windows XP Wdf01009? [RESOLVED]

Periodically in my System Restore Points, I’ll find a case of “Installed Windows XP Wdf01009.” Right now I have one dated 2-22-2017. I know for sure I have never knowingly installed any such animal. What the blazes could “Wdf01009” be in this case? Why does it get installed periodically?

Is it harmless? Or is it malware?
Googling it didn’t really give me any insight.

That seems to be related to a update from MS.

What exact OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast ?

Avast installs it to support XP systems, nothing to worry about.

Oh okay. So it’s avast-related in this case, huh?
Thanks, Asyn.

With 1000 posts here, have you not seen the "upload to virustotal" and check option ?

You’re welcome.

31000 posts and you haven’t learned how to not be rude, sarcastic and condescending.

FYI, VirusTotal does not tell me remotely what Wdf01009 is. I did inquire as well as to what it could be in my computer’s case and why it gets installed by itself periodically.

Help or don’t help. No need for rude, sarcastic, condescending attitude. In the future, ignore all my inquiries. I don’t need YOUR kind of help.

Sorry if it sounded like that, that wasn't my intention. Note that i am not english so i may not frase my english writing correct :-[

That depends on the file, if you click the "file detail" tab you may finde who made it, file version, digitally signed...

Okay, we’ll chalk it off to a misunderstanding.

See, like in your case where as you mention, English is not your 1st language …
In my defense, here and there I see replies of “Google is your friend” … “You should have Googled it” … “Some people are too lazy to use Google.” Well, like in my case, while I consider myself knowing a little bit about avast and arguably a little bit more than the REGULAR average person about computers … I’m definitely not remotely a Geek or even a sub Geek. So my knowledge about computers is not going to remotely be on the same level as that of the regular helpers here.

So, just because I can Google something up about computers, doesn’t necessarily mean I’m always going to be able to understand what I found. Sometimes I WILL understand it and other times I won’t.

For example: You mentioned uploading to VirusTotal. So I went, “Okay, let me bring up VirusTotal.” (I HAVE used it before.) I then saw the 3 tabs — File, URL and Search. I then wondered, “Okay … so how does a System Restore Point of ‘Installed Windows XP Wdf01009’ fit into one of those 3 options?” It was of course not a URL and using the Search option took me nowhere. So, I figured maybe I was supposed to use the Windows Search function and find where that mysterious Wdf01009 was. I did find it. But yeah, my lower level of computer knowledge didn’t allow me to automatically make the connection that I could use VirusTotal to check something out that I was seeing in a System Restore Point.

Anyway, issue resolved. Carry on.
