I have downloaded Avast Home as a tar.gz file into Hardy Heron, unpacked it into a folder, and read the Install file. But I don’t know what command to give it to set it off. It doesn’t appear in the list of installed programs, and none of the icons I tried had any effect. What am I missing?
You need the .deb file for Ubuntu:

Happy virus hunting!
hallo,
the installation step is missing :). you should run the mkinstall.sh script (and this script will place particular files from the tarball to their rightful locations). it’s not like “just extract folder & run it” on Linux (well, using chroot and LD_LIBRARY_PATH it’s possible too:).
