Virgin have recently changed their emails to SSL and using information provided on this forum I have the following configuration:-
In Outlook Express:-
POP3: pop3.ntlworld.com
SMTP: smtp.ntlworld.com
My server requires authentication checked
SMTP port: 587 uncheck SSL
POP3 port: 110 uncheck SSL
In Avast:-
Mail Shield - SSL Accounts
Host: ntl.com Protocol:POP3 Port:995 Encryption:SSL
Host: ntl.com Protocol:SMTP Port:465 Encryption:SSL
It seemed wierd that the ports in Outlook express were not the ones virgin recommends but Avast seems to handle the conversion, I checked this by watching the traffic going in and out of my router and it is talking to virgin on the right IP/port.
However I seem to be intermittantly losing emails, the problem is that one time I can send an email from one of my NTL accounts to another one and it will not arrive and then I try and send another test and it will work. I have a non-NTL account that I have tried to use for testing by sending to/from it and that seems to work, the problem is that straight after the test email I will again try the NTL account and it works so I am never sure if it’s Virgin or my local settings that are causing the loss.
So my questions are
- Are my settings for Avast/OE correct
- Are there any known issues with Avast losing emails
- Are there any known issues with the new NTL/Virgin losing emails
Cheers
