I was browsing one familiar forum this evening and when browsing some topic I noticed that the tab where the forum topic was opened was loading something, and Firefox showed that it was trying to connect to the website “i.minus.com”. I was not familiar with this site, but after little research I found it being website “minus.com”, which was seemingly used for sharing pictures and other media, seemingly similar to possibly imgur, and the topic I was browsing seemed to have some broken links in IMG tags that were hosted by i.minus.com. Since the website seemed to hae good reputation by 3rd party online scanners I went little further and searched reddit for the domain and checked out some image links that were not reported as malicious (as they were visited by great numper of users), and none of them would just take their time trying to connect and just show Firefox error page. The same seemed to happen with Chrome and Firefox mobile, so I guess this problem could be somehow global.
So for clarification, minus.com itself seems to work fine, but when trying to visit direct image links (starting with i.minus.com, similar to imgur.com and i.imgur.com) they don’t seem to work, and any page that contains images from that website seems to load slower than usual while trying to connect to i.minus.com. This could possibly be just some temporary error on the website itself, but I figured to try to make sure nothing nasty could be going on. ???
additional, checking on the external links from that website this was fortunately blocked for me in the Google Chrome browser by uBlock₀ has prevented the following page from loading:
-http://ak-ns.sascdn.com/
Because of the following filter
-||ak-ns.sascdn.com^
Just wanted to report this.
Thank you for the information polonus (is it me or is toolbar.netcraft.com loading slowly…?)
I’ve had minus.com and i.minus.com in my Noscript blacklist the whole time without whitelisting them, the only links I tried on Chrome and Firefox mobile seemed to be broken image links that didn’t seem to work at the time, so could this mean that they were harmless? In general, after reading your info I’m not sure if I could deduce every single i.minus.com link being possibly malicious? Different image domains I found were mostly something like “i3.minus.com”, “i4.minus.com” etc.
Also, I remember uBlock being adblocker like AdBlock Plus, so could this mean that the domain is some kind of possibly malicious advertisement? Did you find it from minus.com or i.minus.com exactly?
When you wanna look at a specific report from Netcraft Report you get a Page Not Found, they probably have a connection problem,it is not you or me, it is with Netcraft’s service.Report via mail to webmaster@netcraft.comwebmaster@netcraft.com
Coming back to that domain’s adware reported, just common adware that any adblocker will come to block.
Nothing malicious per se, as the manner of ad-launching could be black hat or seo spam.
Did not realize it at the moment, but this is what probably brought about the Netcraft report hick-ups, a big data center outage in the heart of the City at Telecity: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/11/17/telecity_voip_outage/
Netcraft is London-based. Someone silencing Bow Bells for a while…? ;D
