Internet Access Blocked w/ Web Shield

Hi: Seems like a common issue, but I’m confused by a few answers. Could use some help.
Profile:
OS: XP SP2 w/ IE6
Using McAfee Security Ctr w/ Personal FW
Avast Home Edition 4.7

Internet Access was being blocked. I shut off various Avast shields and regained connectivity w/ Web Shield off. Per previous forum threads I checked McAfee FW program permissions. Web Scanner (WebSv.exe), email Scanner and antivirus we all being permitted w/ Full Access by McAfee. I then manually removed permission for Web Scanner and then gave manual permission for Web Scanner when prompted by McAfee pop-up. Is there anything I missed or need to configure. I may just give up on McAfee and switch to Comodo, but then have to deal w/ uninstall of McAfee. Appreciate your help. Thanks.

I would suggest deleting the entry for ashWebSv.exe on the McAfee firewall and connect again, it should ask permission again, allow it.

Some firewalls, notably Zone Alarm seem to suffer some form of amnesia regarding connection permissions even when the list shows it is permitted. I have even had this happen on my firewal Outpost Pro and deletion of the entry was the only thing that worked.

My concern is that the McAfee Security Ctr comes with its anti-virus and this can mess with things even when it is disabled, so do you have the anti-virus element of the security ctr installed ?

You can’t use two firewalls at the same time. If you want to use Comodo you MUST uninstall McAfee.

Sometimes, McAfee won’t be completely removed if, before, you do not uninstall Avast, including the use of its “Uninstall Application” if necessary (www.avast.com/eng/faq-install-uninstall-avast.html).
