Please tell me how to recover my Internet Connection… grrrrrrrr…
I’m late to your post. Reinstalling Windows should be a last resort, always. System restore in some cases will solve the problem. Also using a backup of your system, if you had done so to a previous date would have also helped possibly. I really wish you would have waited before doing this and try doing some other things to get your connection back. The removal of all entries to your registry of the software should have been considered with regard to both antivirus software.
I see you contacted Avira. They should have a removal tool just as avast! does to remove all registry entries. Their is software available to help in the removal of entries, without you becoming personally involved in editing your registry, which I personally never recommend. This could have been a part of your problem. You really need to do a complete uninstall of both in order to find out where the problem lies.
Hopefully, reinstalling Windows will give you back your connection.
Yeah, we are too late to help you, but a few tips :
You installed Avast! while Avira was still on your system. Two ( or more ) resident AV’s on your system is asking for problems. Always uninstall the old AV properly, and reboot before you install the new AV. Also many security applications have special removal tools. I recommend to use those too after uninstallation, preferably in safe mode. You can find a very good list here :
I’m afraid you won’t get much help with Avira here.
I’m sure that Rednose is right, because you said that you downloaded and installed Avast, and then did nothing except talk about Avira!
Never install 2 AV’s at the same time. They almost certainly will interfere with one another. I would still rely on a software firewall as well as the router. I do, here.
If your data and configuration is that important to you, you must start employing a proper backup system. Otherwise, you will end up like you have said here, starting from scratch with a Windows XP install.
Slow down next time, and give people a chance to respond before re-installing. Somebody else (news) also mentioned system restore, which may have worked before you resorted to re-installing.
In the last second before start the reinstall process i found a product that rebuild the registry information, delete and create new tables for TCP-IP and stuff.
My system it’s working again, but this was a very bad experience, a “security product” must be secure, by logic, but this is full of insecurity, a new user can lost the system just installing this antivirus and there are no warnings in the site. If you uses the search button and look up for internet connection problems, you find lots of posts, that say on thing… “there are a problem to fix before sell this product”.
My system restore it’s disable (to much space)
I don’t use system backup software, i made changes constantly and i only need specific backups of my source and important things (developer)
I test the winsockxpfix yesterday (i found on google) but the problem was not fixed, the problem is the TCP-IP table and not the winsock components, this AV made changes in the TCP-IP tables and don’t restore that tables after uninstall.
Well, i hope the Avira team works on stability… and not only in the look&feel.
Thanks so very much for coming back and letting us know how things went for you. I’m happy that your system is up and running once again. If ever you want to try and use avast! again, don’t be afraid to come back and give it a try. Lots of great folks here on this forum that will be willing to help you give it a go.
