Internet timeout connection lapsed

Can someone explain what this message means? I have had problems with Vonage call quality lately and I suspect this message is related to it.

I am current with regards program version/level

Generally, timeouts are related to email scanning that take too long (with atachments) or spam checking.
Is that the case?

Yes the error does refer to email.
( wperl.exe > mail.comcast.net110) If that is the case I am still not sure what it means and whether I have to worry about it.

Thanks

You can increase both your avast! timeout: Internet Mail provider > Customize > Advanced (tab)
and your email account timeout (generally, right click the email account, choose properties and the Advanced tab of settings).

This is one for Tech as wperl.exe is an email spam blocker (I believe), you need to ensure that the spam blocker and avast’s email proxy are coordinated correctly otherwise you could be duplicating scan effort and slowing the email download, hence the timeout.

Yes upping the timeout settings should help/resolve it but this is treating the symptom not the disease.

If so, the solution is simple. You must exclude the wperl.exe process from the automatic virus scan.
Find your avast4.ini (generally C:\Program files\Alwil Software\avast4\Data\avast4.ini) and in the section [MailScanner] add (or edit) the following key:

[MailScanner]
IgnoreProcess=wperl.exe

Multiple process names can be separated with commas.

This way, not the executable will be on the exclusion list but only the mail communication of the ignored process will be bypassed of scanning. This brings no other exceptions - file access is of course scanned.

If you believe in Wperl - I see no reason to not believe - and you exclude it from scanning, no mail scanning on it’s connection will ever have any other effect that timeout message. The timeout message is there for the situations when sending or receiving of large mail may look like timeout and you would like to wait a bit longer in stead of just silently terminate such a connection.

I was thinking more of not excluding the program but putting it at a point where, it goes through the spam filter, mail scanner, etc. not unlike what you have done with Spami?

I suppose it depends on how his wperl spam filter works as a mail server or inbox spam filter. So I was thinking of something in the [MailScanner] settings to redirect. Probably wrong though since I didn’t have to do that with MailWasher, I exclude it as you said as I use it independently of OE.

Ok, this could be done, depending on how wperl application works.
Isn’t anything related on their website, helping and teaching how to configure mail programs there?

I guess we will have to wait for ‘joelpk’ to get back to us with a little more info on how wperl works.
