when I have the On-Access Protection running I can not access the internet, yet as soon as I turn it off the internet comes back on again…Please help ???
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?
- If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.

This is the first time I have installed avast, and there is no current firewall protecting this computer…though it will have Windows Firewall as of this post
Then the first question asked about ‘other’ AVs is very important (which you didn’t answer) as this is the most common cause if you don’t have an active firewall that monitors outbound traffic (XP’s firewall doesn’t).
As a temporary measure if you have to go on-line terminate/stop (right click the avast icon) the Web Shield provider. This should allow you to go on-line without totally disabling avast and having zero protection.
What other security applications do you have installed ?
What is you browser ?
