there is a pre-release version of the new version of avast PDA Edition for Palm OS available at this location: http://cat.asw.cz/~vlk/setuppdapalm.exe . Please note that this is actually a Windows executable (not a plain Palm .prc file any more).
New features include:
full support for PalmOS 5.x
on-access scanner
Windows-based auto-updating component to keep everything up-to-date.
If everything goes OK, the release date of this version will be next week.
I’m proud to say that this build effectively makes avast PDA Edition probably the best and most-complete (in terms of functions) antivirus for the PalmOS platform currently available…
1. Is there a feature for automatic download the update by Windows? Is it incremental?
Yes, it's incremental updating.
2. When the files are scanned, just when I asked to? Won't they be scanned when I install a new one by 'HotSync' or 'beam'? ;)
No, files transfered via IR/HotSync/... are not scanned, only on-access scanning which will protect your PDA anyway. I think, there's no need have two hooks (hotsync & on-access one)...
We hook exec request, in two different ways for OS3+ and OS5+. Some system fncs are redirected to the avast resident part which stays in memory… These info were gained from .jp page - tnx to vlk :-*.
pk, you win! This is the most un-readable (un-understandable) post that I saw in this forum ;D Probably I have a head ache now… I did not understand what you mean. I’m not so ‘technical’ at this time of the night 8)
Wow, I was using the Palm Beta version, without Windows installing… Now I have to see everything again.
pk, you send me for translation just a ‘part’ of PDA version: I miss the License (if it is different from avast!4), install (setup), update window, menus, and so on. I think we have something to work with…
You have received language file for PPC version (HPC, PocketPC, Smartphone) and you’re talking about Palm version - multi-language support will not be there.
I don’t think so; PDA version should not have multi-language support but I worked on language library in my earlier project and it wasn’t too complicated to add it. It’s not hard to understand in Palm AV, there’s not much text - and multi-lang support in every product is not our policy.
