*** INTRODUCING: New pre-release build of avast [NOW 5.0.542] ***

The program update has now been officially released as 5.0.545. Details here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=59408.
Thanks to everyone who helped testing.

Hi *,

we’ll soon be releasing a new build of avast 5 Free/Pro/IS. As usual, we’re making the build available for public testing before it’s officially released (so far the version number is 5.0.542).

How to get it
Free AV: links removed
Pro AV: links removed
Internet Security: links removed

How to install it
Just run the setup executable (links above). You can either install it from scratch, or on top of an existing avast installation (installing over both 5.0.xxx or 4.8.yyy should be fine). A reboot will be required to complete the installation.

You can also directly update to this build from the previous beta (5.0.533) by simply invoking the program update feature.

What’s new
Most notable improvements include:
• Solved a bug related to submission of false positives
• Improvements in the Behavior Shield (realtime antirootkit part)
• Sandbox: many functional, stability and performance improvements
• Firewall: VPN compatibility fixes (should now work even in Public zone etc)
• Firewall: solved an issue related to hang and/or crash of the afwServ.exe process
• Finally compatible with major screen readers
• Various fixes in the Outlook antispam add-in
• Right-to-left support
• Added Croatian and Arabic language packs

Thanks much
Vlk

I’m downloading it now…you didn’t mention the firewall log crowded with tens of irrelevant blocked connections entries (irrelevant entries because these connections do exist, they are not blocked at all, and they don’t have to, it’s just the log messing around, I’ve mentioned it a few times)

launching an application (IE or Firefox or anything else) set to be always virtualized still taking ages, randomly (it starts sometimes normally), while launching the same app virtualized (the “once” way) always works fine. So this is not fixed. But I already transmitted many dump files and logs already, and it seems the issue wasn’t identified…can’t tell if that’s just on my system.

You won’t see anything in the change logs as this isn’t officially released to all users, but is a pre-release version as stated in the first post.

So you need to check that post for the various changes included in this pre-release build, unless that is what you were referring to.

firzen771,

Maybe if you follow the instructions to install avast! 5 in safe mode your WebShield may work.

not understand!
French interface: parametres; comportements du programme

If I enable: Avast display result at the end of scan (OK)
but after is written: display only if there are results to display ? ???
no display if no virus ? and if not tick= no display, if virus detected, no display ? ???

The fix should be present in one of the upcoming VPS updates, it was not included in this program update.

No, because it isn’t just a simple update from the current regular build. You have to download the complete installation file at 47.7MB is way to big on dial-up. This would take between 2Hrs 45mins to 3hrs 10mins, so I will have to wait for the regular release through incremental update in the UI.

If it was possible, I would share bandwith with you…!
Btw, can’t you upgrade to some faster connection where you live…?
