Hi, wonder if anyone has experienced the same problem as I have. I’ve been using avast’s sandbox to virtualize IE8’s processes since build 377, and hadn’t seen any big problem until yesterday after I updated from 396 to 418. The symptom is if I run IE8 sandboxed, it becomes not responsive after opening 3 to 4 pages, and the system ends up with BSOD. The error displayed is always INVALID_KERNEL_HANDLE. One thing I’ve observed is the IE virtual memory usage ramps up like crazy in sandbox. For example, if the physical memory taken by IE is 100M, the VM size may reach some 400M.
I tried to repair the install, and later did a complete clean install with all default settings, but none of them solved the problem. My system is with Windows XP SP3. The only other security software is Outpost Firewall Pro 6.5, but its on and off didn’t make any difference to the issue. The only way I can avoid BSODs is to use IE without sandbox.
Any ideas or suggestions? I love using avast, so I really don’t want to switch to another antivirus program. Thanks!
PS: the only change I made to the system when the problem emerged was updating avast from 396 to 418.
