invalid key message

Hi I’m new here, I’m having trouble with the registration key, I downloaded the Avast 5 Free, then I register through the website because I don’t know what happen in the Avast program that it doesn’t let me register online. I received the key then I copy and paste it in the program and a pop up window came and said: “(the key that I inserted)” is not a valid key! then I register again with another email and received another key and when I insert it, the same message appeared.

Can anyone help me here??? please

First there should be no need to go through this death by email and manually entering a key, which you could enter incorrectly.

If you have internet availability on this computer, use the avastUI, Maintenance, Registration and click the big Register Now button. You need to fill a few details and the registration is done there and then.

I try it already, when I clicked the big Register Now a Screen like the one in the picture came, then I clicked in the register now part of the free edition and it did nothing that’s because I went to register by email.

First try this, ensure that your system date is correct, day/month/year and adjust as required.

If that was correct or didn’t work - This could be conflict with another security application.
Have (or did) you another Anti-Virus installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?

If you had avast 4.8 before installing avast free 5.0, try a clean reinstall:

  • Download the latest version of avast, 5.0.507 http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again (if you didn’t save your last download). Use that when you reinstall.

  • Download the avast! Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe find it here and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.8 and 5.0).

    1. Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.- 2. run the avast! Uninstall Utility from safe mode, first for 4.8 if previously installed and then for 5.0, once complete reboot into normal mode.- 3. install the latest version, reboot.

I check the date and it was OK. The anti virus that I had previously installed was AVG Free, I uninstalled it and rebooted my PC before install avast. By the problem of the key I uninstalled avast with the uninstall utility and installed again, when I pressed the big register now the same window came on.

I think Im going to reinstall the AVG because I don’t like this thing of the invalid key

But anyway thanks for the help.

It may be that there are still remnants of avg left behind.

  • AVG8.x (or higher) Remover, download tool from here, http://www.avg.com/download-tools there is a 32bit and 64 bit windows version, ensure you use the correct one.
